Cricket is no more a gentleman s game: Nain Abidi

Karachi :  Experienced Pakistani woman cricketer Nain Abidi Wednesday said that the world of cricket must rephrase the clich  that  Cricket is gentleman s game  as the women cricket is also making comparable progress.
Cricket has been called gentleman s game. This phrase needs to be reconsidered as women cricket is also progressing by leaps and bounds as well,  Nain Abidi said here at a reception ceremony held in honor of Pakistani women cricketers at a local hotel. The reception was hosted by District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South.
Women cricket is progressing throughout the world but in last few years, women cricket in Pakistan has progressed exponentially,  she added.
Pakistan women cricket team had an eventful year in 2011. The team qualified for the 2012 World Twenty20 and the 2013 World Cup after reaching the final of WC Qualifiers, where they were defeated by West Indies.
Apart from the qualification reward, Pakistan also won the Twenty20 and ODI Quadrangular series in Sri Lanka ahead of the hosts, Ireland and Netherlands. They had also earlier clinched Asian Games gold medal.
Apart from, Nain Abidi, Javeria Wadood, Kainat Imtiaz, Bismah Maroof, Kainat Imtiaz, Batool Fatima and Rabia were also present on the occasion. Former chief selectors Salahuddin Ahmed Sallu and Iqbal Qasim were also present on the occasion.
Iqbal Qasim, who is also the director of NBP sports division, praised the women cricketers for their achievements and also proposed his organization s support for organizing women tournaments in the country.
